Above: Performing a hang and flute duo at the Sacred Sound Concert at the New Earth Festival. gallery (new additions get added to the bottom) Sahayak's beaming face on the D drone flute's safe arrival in Italy. (Shipped from Australia from Spiritsong Flutes). Carlos (Tapado) Vargas - the highly respected and popular Costa Rican percussionist who we have had the good fortune to perform with a number of times while in Costa Rica. Maia with soul sister Gabrielle at her June '08 Mind Body Spirit Festival stall in Brisbane - a time of many miracles for us and with significant input from Gabe! Maia and Sahayak on air (and webcast) at Radio Holistica in San Jose - invited after presenter Iside heard us play at an event. Our Tico friends Leonardo, who was on the same radio show as us, with Iside (yes, she has a koala attached to her T-shirt. I put it there and it stayed there all evening!) If it's not the flute, it's the hang for Sahayak's regular morning music meditations, here in the lovely garden where we are staying in Escazu, San Jose. Performing at Iside's Feng Shui Chinese New Year event. We had the good fortune of being able to occasionally borrow this beautiful Native American Indian medicine drum for events - thanks Vicki! Self portrait with hang soon after I received it...still pinching myself that this exquisite, heaven-sent 'art piece' had chosen me! Our friend Carolina (Leonardo's wife) having an impromptu flute playing lesson from Sahayak at a fire ceremony event. Maia felt inspired to get arty with Sergio's second generation Egyptian scale hang in Portugal. A bit of fun with time lapse...
Maia and Tapado rehearsing for the May 12 'Music Alchemy' concert in San Jose. While performing at Cafe de Artistas in San Jose, our hearts were captured by little Jessi, who through her own inner music was drawn to our instruments like a magnet, and happily accepted our invitation for a hands on experience. Busking in Florence, Italy, October 2008. As always, the hang draws people like the Pied Piper's flute!
Above: Sahayak 'in full flight'- performing at our May 12 Music Alchemy concert in San Jose. Below: Our first day in the studio...a new adventure begins! Above: Here is a shopping centre appearance we were invited to perform at in San Jose for Chinese New Year. The man standing at the gong (top left, just above us) is Grammy Award winning percussionist, Carlos 'Tapado' Vargas. This synchronistic connection was the beginning of the journey towards us all performing together! Above: An unintentional but appreciated special effect photo of us performing in the rainforest at Uvita de Osa, Costa Rica.
Above: We invited local didge player Uli to join us. (He had a 'D' didge.) Nature's sounds of tree frogs and rain - not to mention a swarm of small bats - were also a beautiful addition. With Edin Solis in his recording studio after we were invited to exchange some music. We now have an exquisite piece of guitar work on one of our new CDs, and Edin has some great raw material that he is going to turn into something (after adding more musicians) that we will get to hear later! Rehearsal for our 17 August 'A Celebration of Harmony' concert in San Jose. (Sahayak and Tapado missing from the photo.) From left to right: Juan Pablo, Marianela, Manuel and Maia. The Sydney Mind Body Spirit Festival, November 2009. Right: we were joined by Manuela, who added her beautiful, improvised vocals for our performance of 'Devananda' - spontaneously arranged just half an hour before we were due on stage and stunningly executed after hearing and feeling into barely a minute of the piece! Inspirational! ...and what a treat for everyone - both on stage and off-stage :o) The lovely group at our Jimboomba 'Musical Alchemy' workshop, January 2010. The guys share an improvised musical creation with the others at our Jimboomba 'Musical Alchemy' workshop. Above: Our stall at the New Earth Festival in Perth - not a bad effort seeing as all but the chair and table had to come out of our suitcases (along with 16 kgs of CDs and our clothes!) With Sam Gillard (organiser) at the Soul Synergy event in Woombye (Sunshine Coast). Above and below: We invited Nicholas Ng to join us on stage at the June 2010 Mind Body Spirit Festival in Brisbane to treat the audience to his beautiful playing of the erhu (Chinese violin). Very special! It was also a special day because it was on the side of this stage exactly two years ago that Sahayak and I first met. Left: Playing a crowd favourite, 'Sacred Union' at the June 2010 Cooran Acoustic Night.
Lovely community event, lovely crowd - very cold though (would take a lot for Sahayak to wear a beanie on stage!)
This lovely shot from the Cooran music night was taken by Rebekah Joan. |
